Let Not Your Hearts Be Troubled!
Along with faith and love, hope is an enduring virtue of the Christian life. It is hope that produces joy and peace in believers through the power of the Holy Spirit. The certainty of our future is guaranteed in our life with Christ and through the indwelling of the Spirit. Those who hope in Christ will see Christ exalted in life and in death. In chapters 14 and 15, John records how Jesus set out to encourage His disciples as He prepared to die on the cross. He knew that He would not be with His disciples much longer. And so, by His words, He offered them hope of their future despite the fact that He would soon be leaving them to carry on His kingdom mission. As they gathered in the upper room, Jesus offered words of encouragement that helped them prepare for what they didn’t yet fully understand. In this series we will allow these words of encouragement that Jesus offered to His disciples to teach us how we too can have hope for our future and how we can rest in the presence of the Holy Spirit.
