Guarding the Gospel | LifeGroup

]Every building has a foundation. You may not see it once the building is finished, but everything depends on it. If the foundation is strong, the building can stand. If the foundation is weak, eventually cracks will appear. The same is true of our lives—and of the church. In this sermon series, we will be walking through Paul's first letter to Timothy. 1 Timothy is such a great book because Paul addresses the health of the church from the ground up. He speaks on issues like sound doctrine, worship, prayer, leadership, relationships, money, and missions. But here's what makes this letter so powerful: Paul doesn't treat the gospel as merely the message we believe to become Christians. He shows us that the Word of God is the foundation upon which we build everything! The gospel shapes what we believe. The gospel shapes how we worship. The gospel shapes how we live, work, give, and serve. In other words, the gospel isn't just the starting point for the Christian life, it is the foundation of the entire Christian life. Paul once wrote saying, “14…I am writing these things to you so that, 15 if I delay, you may know how one ought to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, a pillar and buttress of the truth.” (1 Timothy 3:14-15) So, in this series we will be asking: What does it look like to build a life—and a church— standing firmly on the gospel of Jesus Christ?
